As a big regional city with a large population, Linhai is situated in the coastal area of eastern Zhejiang province and the south wing of Yangtze River Delta economic circle. It covers a land area of 2,203 square kilometers, and a sea area of 1,590 square kilometers. It is embraced on three sides by mountains and faced by sea on one side. Seventy percent of the area are mountains, 10 percent of the area are covered by water, and 20 percent of the area are tillable farmlands. Linhai belongs to subtropical monsoon climate. The four seasons here are distinct. The precipitation is adequate. The average yearly temperature is 17.3℃. The average yearly precipitation is 1,638 mm. Linhai governs five neighborhoods, 14 towns, a population of 1.2 million. China Communist Party leaders and government leaders as Xi Jinping, Wen Jiabao, Zhang Dejiang, and Wang Qishan once inspected Linhai.

Linhai government tries its best to revive Linhai and make Linhai the best city for living and working. In 2017, Linhai is listed in China Top 100 Counties for Economic and Competitive Power. Government revenue reached nearly 10 billion Yuan RMB(about USD 1.54 billion). The government revenue growth rate leads other counties in Zhejiang province. Gross product reached 60.25 billion Yuan RMB(about USD 9.24 billion). The growth rate reached 8%. Gross product of large industrial enterprises totaled 88.65 billion Yuan RMB(about USD 14 billion), which ranks first in Taizhou and the increase rate ranks first in Zhejiang province. The value-added of the large industrial enterprises totaled 18.18 billion Yuan RMB(about USD 2.8 billion), which ranks first in Taizhou and the increase rate ranks the third in Zhejiang province. The per capita disposable income of urban resident reaches 47,309 Yuan RMB(about USD 7278). The per capita net income of rural residents reached 25,052 Yuan RMB(about USD 3854). In 2016 and 2017, Linhai was praised for achieving the economic and social development goals.

Linhai enjoys a long, deep, and sustaining history. As early as 100 thousand years ago, Lingjiang People once lived here. In 85 BC, Huipu Township was accommodated. In 257, Linhai Prefecture was accommodated. In 621, Taizhou prefecture was named and accommodated. Linhai is the first county-level city which has been titled National Historical and Cultural City. In its history, Linhai has seen many wonders. From Linhai, there came five Number One Scholars. Five prime ministers from Linhai serve the Song dynasty.  Four brothers from the same family became chin-shih—successful candidates in the highest imperial examinations. A father and his two sons became grand coordinators. Many celebrities, such as Xie Lingyun, Zheng Qian, Luo Binwang, Zhu Xi, Qi Jiguang, Xu Xiake, Zhu Ziqing, and so forth, once worked or visited Linhai. Linhai has the reputation of being Little Zou Lu, which means that it is a great center of education. Here, you can find many historical sites, such as Taizhou City Wall, Ziyang Ancient Street, Jinshan Towers, and so forth. Taizhou City Wall is listed in Chinese World Cultural Heritage Tentative List. Ziyang Ancient Street is titled Famous Chinese Historical and Cultural Street. On March 1, 1986, Linhai County was upgraded to Linhai City. In 2005, Linhai and Hoengseong from the ROK became twin cities. 

Linhai boasts its beautiful scenery and superior environment. It is called a land of fairies. The third largest river, Lingjiang River, flows across Linhai. Kuocang Mountain, the highest mountain in south-east Zhejiang, is titled National Forest Park of China. The mountain is the place in China’s mainland which receives the first ray of sunlight of the 21st century. Taizhou City Wall Culture&Tourism Area has passed the qualification assessment for National 5A Scenic Area. Taozhu Scenic Area has been listed in the 9th batch of National Scenic Areas. Linghu Lake Scenic Area has been awarded People’s Model Habitat Environment of China prize. The forest coverage here reaches 64.2%. Grass and tree coverage in urban area reaches 41%. It has been given many titles as National Landscape Garden City, National Health City, Top Tourist City of China, Livable City of China. Linhai has been listed in big city planning.

Linhai enjoys convenient traffic and transportation and its marine development is promising. Geographically speaking, Linhai is the center of Taizhou. It is a traffic hub of Taizhou. Railways, expressways, and highways run across Linhai. The length of highways and expressways totals 2,307 kilometers, which takes about one third of the total length of highways and expressways in Taizhou. The usable coastline of Toumen Port is 28.8 kilometers long, which has the capacity of building 84 berths that can handle ships larger than 10,000 tons. On December 26, 2014, Toumen Port was opened for use. Berths that can handle ships larger than 20,000 and 30,000 tons have been put in operation.

Linhai is a place with developed economy. It is among the first batch of cities opening to the outside world. There are two economic development zones: Toumen Economic Development Zone and Linhai Economic Development Zone. It is the birthplace of the first joint stock enterprise in China. Modern medicine, automobile machinery, and leisure products dominate the industries in Linhai. It has been titled Model Base for Export Industry Transformation and Upgrading, Zhejiang Model Area for Modern Industry Clusters Transformation and Upgrading, and Zhejiang Model County for Smart Manufacturing of Automobiles and Parts. There are seven listed companies, 14 New OTC Market enterprises. Weixing Group ranks 325 among China Top 500 Private Enterprises 2017. Huahai Pharmaceuticals is the only Chinese enterprise which sells pharmaceutical preparation products to European and American markets. The first private-enterprise-manufactured car was born in Linhai. The first China-made racing car was manufactured in Linhai. Geely Automobile has had its world-class smart assembly line in Linhai. In terms of agricultural products, there are orange, tea, waxberry, and broccoli. Linhai is also a place for financial reform, innovation, and service. Rural inclusive finance leads other counties in Zhejiang province.

Linhai is a safe and peaceful place. It is the starting place of Taizhou culture. Taizhou Hospital and Taizhou University have accommodated their campuses here. It is titled National Advanced Cultural City, National Advanced Sport City, Experimental Standardization and Normalization City for Open Government at Grass-root Level, City Strong in Education in Zhejiang Province, Zhejiang Model City for Health Emergency Response. It is titled Peaceful and Safety City in Zhejiang Province in the past successive 13 years. It is awarded Zhejiang First Batch Golden Tripod for Peace and Safety.
